August 2007 – Janet Collins Establishes Herself as a Businesswoman and a Role Model

Mount Pleasant - By starting her own court reporting firm, Janet Collins strives to improve the quality of reporting throughout the state and establish herself as a role model for people seeking independence, growth and development in their lives. In February of this year, after nearly ten years as an official reporter in federal court, Janet embarked on the creation of J. Collins Reporting with two goals in mind: to provide top-quality court reporting and closed-caption services to the community and to provide others with the same opportunities that court reporting has provided her.

As a reporter, Janet is committed to offering exceptional traditional and real-time transcription services to the legal community in an honest, caring environment where clients are seen as friends rather than invoices and the long-term relationship is more valuable than the short-term dollar. She also seeks to expand the horizons of those with hearing or learning disabilities by offering captioning services in a variety of areas, including schools, meetings, conferences, and seminars.

For Janet, court reporting has been a way for her to overcome a less-than-privileged past by giving her financial independence and confidence in herself that she never felt before. J. Collins Reporting also provides training for individuals looking to begin a career in court reporting. Janet’s passion lies in her ability to provide accurate court reporting with the highest level of integrity. Now her mission and goal is to pass on her love of reporting to others, and provide them with the necessary skills to create their own path in the field of court reporting.
